Every Space Now Filled at Uptown Entertainment District

Date: November 12, 2014

Nov. 12, 2014 – With the recent opening of its seventh restaurant, the Uptown Entertainment District is fully operational, the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex announced. The newest eatery, Bottle & Bone, is a specialty butcher shop and deli which offers wine and beer on tap and in bottles.

Bottle & Bone, owned and operated by local foods purveyor Jen Barnett, will hold its grand opening celebration this Saturday, Nov. 18 from 10 am to 10 pm featuring a tailgate-themed “Whole Hog” giveaway. The newest Uptown restaurant joins neighbors Todd English P.U.B., Texas de Brazil, The Southern Kitchen & Bar, Octane Coffee+Bar, Mugshots Grill & Bar and Cantina Laredo.

“The Uptown restaurants have opened one by one, and each of them has brought a distinctive flavor to the mix,” said Tad Snider, Executive Director and CEO of the BJCC.

Adjacent to the new Westin Birmingham, Uptown was developed in response to demand from convention planners hosting meetings at the BJCC. Anchored by a central fountain and sunny outdoor spaces, the district has proven popular not only with visitors but with local residents attending concerts, plays, consumer shows and other events at the BJCC.

Uptown has become a convenient lunch and after-work stop for downtown workers – supported by free parking for restaurant patrons in the two large surface lots on either side of Uptown.

“And then, on the weekends, it becomes a true destination – for couples on dates, for sports fans looking for a comfortable place to watch a ballgame, for all kinds of people who want to have a celebration, a nice meal or just a quiet cup of coffee in the downtown area,” Snider said.

Mayor William A. Bell, whose office was instrumental in the development, said Uptown fills an important space in Birmingham’s ongoing downtown revitalization. “It’s always been a dream of ours to see a vibrant and energized northern area downtown with an entertainment district that is world-class, and that’s what we have with Uptown,” he said.
